2 RESOLUTION ENDORSING TSB CONCEPT OF A REGIONAL SPORTS AUTHORITY WHEREAS, Orange County Board of Commissioners recognizes that our community is part of a region commonly identified as "the Triangle," and WHEREAS, local governments located in the Triangle area have long recognized the value of a regional approach to issues which transcend their own jurisdictions, and WHEREAS, the promotion of large scale sporting events and endeavors is in the best interests of all local governments in the Triangle because of the potential for generation of revenue and national as well as international exposure, and WHEREAS, the North Carolina General Assembly has enacted enabling legislation which provides for the creation of regional sports authorities, and WHEREAS, a regional sports authority is the logical vehicle to promote the Triangle area as a site for national and international sporting events, and WHEREAS, the Triangle area is a potential location for some of the 1994 World Cup Soccer Matches, and WHEREAS, interest has been expressed in the Triangle area as a potential location for a National Football League franchise, and WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the region that the various local governments join in promoting the region as a location for such major sporting activities, and WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners wishes to join with other local governments in the Triangle area in the promotion of the area as a location for such large scale sporting events. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners endorses the concept of joining with other local governments in the region to create a regional sports authority in accordance with the provisions of Part 3 of Article 20, Chapter 160A of the North Carolina General statutes.
