Eel <br />4. The County contains the following airport(s): <br />Horace Williams Airport located in the Northwest <br />corner of the intersection of Airport Road and <br />Estes Drive in the city of Chapel Hill. Hogan's <br />private airstrip located on the west side of Old <br />N.C. Hwy. 86 half way between Homestead Road and <br />Old Fayetteville Road in the southern part of the <br />county. <br />5. The county is exposed to many hazards, all of which <br />have the potential to disrupt the community, cause <br />damage, and create casualties. Potential hazards <br />(natural, technological,,.and national security) by <br />priority are: <br />a. Hazardous Material Incidents <br />b. Severe Winter Storms <br />C. Urban and Wildfires <br />d. Agricultural Drought <br />e. Power Failure <br />f. Flooding <br />g. Mass Casualty /Transportation Accidents <br />h. Tornados <br />i. Dam Failure <br />j. Earthquakes <br />k. Nuclear /Incident <br />B. Assumptions <br />1. It is necessary for the County to plan for and to <br />carry out disaster response and short -term recovery <br />operations utilizing local resources, however, it <br />is likely that outside assistance would be <br />available in most major disaster situations <br />affecting the County. <br />2. Officials of the County are aware of the possible <br />occurrence of an emergency or major disaster and <br />their responsibilities in the execution of this <br />plan and will fill these responsibilities as <br />needed. <br />3. Implementation of this plan will reduce or prevent <br />the loss of lives and damage to property. <br />2 <br />
