There are about 200 families on Aid torFamilies with Dependent <br />no <br />Children (AFDC), many of whom will be involved in Welfare Reform in 1990, and with many of the working er t who be eligible for child services under welfare reforms, an estimated 1000 new day care slots could be needed in the <br />next year. Also state subsidies, which include only minor contributions from the county and nnunicipalities, are being ecut <br />in Change County. State government has determined that other counties are not getting their fair share and funds for- <br />merly designated for orange County are being disbursed elsewhere in the state. <br />ptvgress in developing additional child care, providing only .five percent of Currently, churches have made little <br />the county's child care services, businesses <br />have had no involvement. Funds are used to provide child care assistance for teen parents, and abused and neglected <br />children. <br />- -Chapel Hill /Carrboro Schools system is considering pre school .services for 3 and 4 year olds. A pilot program <br />for this population will probably be introduced soon at one of the elementary schools. <br />Public /Private Partnership has an active child care committee that has conducted an assessment of child care <br />needs in the county. The committee is in the process of developing specific recommendations for addressing <br />some of the identified issues. <br />—Child care agencies that participate in the department of Social Services administered subsidv program meet <br />monthly to coordinate services and to provide mutual support. <br />
