f <br />CURRENT INITIATIVES (Child Care) 11 <br />* Several efforts are underway to address some of the needs for quality and <br />afordable child care: <br />-- Orange County government provides a $90,000 subsidy fund which is <br />administered by the Department of Social Services. Funds are used to <br />provide child care assistance for teen parents, and abused and neglected <br />children. <br />-- Chapel Hill /Carrboro Schools system is considering pre school services <br />for 3 and 4 year olds. A pilot program for this population <br />will probably be introduced soon at one of the elementary schools. <br />Public /Private Partnership has an active child care committee that has <br />conducted an assessment of child care needs in the county. <br />The committee is in the process of developing specific recommendations <br />for addressing some of the identified issues. <br />-- Child care agencies that participate in the department of Social Services <br />administered subsidy program meet monthly to coordinate services and to <br />provide mutual support. <br />8 <br />
