The purpose <br />of the forum was to bring together community service <br />providers, business, religious and civic leaders. <br />Also, the forum was intended to promote greater <br />understanding of the complex nature of poverty, to <br />foster dialogue among participants, to explore and <br />develop a local plan of action to reduce poverty <br />conditions. <br />The goals and objectives of the Poverty Forum were <br />accomplished except development of a local action plan <br />to reduce poverty conditions. The recommendations <br />embodied in the final report represent the first phase <br />of the action plan. Staff and the Poverty Forum <br />Program Committee solicit Board review and comments on <br />the final report before an action plan is developed to <br />address the recommendations. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Refer the Poverty Forum recommendations to the Human <br />Services Advisory Commission (HSAC) and HumanHSer toes <br />Management Team (HSMT). Request <br />jointly identify the most appropriate methods of <br />addressing the recommendations and present methods to <br />the Board for consideration. <br />
