x5 <br />Town of Chapel Hill <br />Key Objectives for 1990 -91 <br />To construct, publicize and operate five new recycling sites at consolidated green <br />box garbage collection sites, for a total of 18 sites; include mixed paper collec- <br />tion at all sites. Total of 18 publicly operated sites will yield 2,400 tons per <br />year (exclusive of potential sites in Carrboro and at UNC). <br />To expand commercial glass program from 20 sites in 1989 -90 to 30 sites, to yield <br />150 tons per year; sustain existing commercial cardboard recycling at 30 sites for <br />150 tons per year. <br />To develop multi - family building collection program for newspapers, glass and alumi- <br />num for 15 complexes, to yield 125 tons per 10 -month program in first year. <br />To expand public information campaigns on recycling, including production and dis- <br />tribution of at least 2 issues of a newsletter on 1) recycling and solid waste is- <br />sues to all households in Orange County, and 2).information on backyard composting; <br />support for other local programs; and development and assistance in operation of <br />compost demonstration projects at area public schools. <br />To achieve a recycling rate of 6% through these programs and curbside- diversion of <br />6% of County's solid waste by weight by June, 1991. <br />104 <br />
