The sites at Frank Porter Graham and Glenwood Schools were taken
over from EGOS and the five new sites were opened at rural green box sites through-
out the County. All the large, consolidated sites except one now have recycling. To-
tal monthly collection from these drop -off sites is approximately 100 tons of news-
paper, glass and aluminum.
In addition to these drop -off sites, which serve primarily residential populations,
there is an ongoing commercial corrugated cardboard collection program serving ap-
proximately 50 businesses at 30 sites in southern Orange County. The program
averages collection of 13 tons per month.
Commercial glass recycling collection, which serves over 30 bars and restaurants at
25 locations in Carrboro and Chapel Hill, was initiated in February, 1990. Twenty
tons per month of glass are collected from this program.
The Recycling Program continues to provide public education on solid waste and to
support non- profit, volunteer and for - profit recycling activities through referrals,
technical assistance, logistical support and publicity.
103
u
10
I
w
C
t
H;'
d,
