(This addition to the above budget was recommended budget by the Landfill Owner's Group) These make up 5.5% by weight of the part of the residential waste stream presently not recycled in Orange County. There is a soft but reliable market for both of these types of materials. Providing containers for these materials at all recycling drop off sites would enable more recycling. This additional service would divert 200 tons of additional materials at a 10% County -wide recycling rate. This service would be provided on a contract basis by a private hauler servicing the drop off sites. SUMMARY: Plastic bottle and tin can recycling at drop -off sites COST: $15,000 REVENUES: $0 The recommended recycling budget for FY 90 -91 is $482,145 Summary of Collection Methods The drop -off and commercial programs will continue to use a mix of in -house and contractual labor. Curbside is contracted. Newspaper and cardboard are picked up and sold directly by the Town to Paper Stock Dealers. A contractor will truck Town - collected mixed paper from a trailer located at a site at the landfill to the Celotex Shingle Mill in Goldoro. Collection and marketing for commercial glass recycling, glass and aluminum from the drop -off sites, and the apartment house program will be contracted to private firms. The recycling program will continue to provide publicity, outreach, and management for all these programs with contractor support.
