Department of <br />Transportation. The voluntary- program will provide S22,500 operating <br />assistance to Orange County for FY90 -91. <br />BACKGROUND: The 1989 session of N.C. General Assembly appropriated <br />S2,000,000 from the Dept. of Transportation Highway Fund for a new <br />operating assistance program which would supplement sources of funds <br />already being used for elderly and handicapped programs. Each county <br />is allocated a share of the funds based on percentage of Elderly and <br />Handicapped. Major program-features include: (1) no local match <br />requirement, (2)-funds must provide additional trips, (3) only County's <br />with an approved TDR are eligible (Orange Co has one), (4) funds are <br />not to purchase /lease vehicles or replace current funds and (5) <br />eligibility certification is done by the County. <br />Application deadline to the NCDOT, Public Transportation Division is <br />July 16, 1990. The special Transportation funds will be equally divided <br />between the Elderly and Handicapped riders. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve renewal application and authorize the Chair <br />to sian application and certification statement. <br />
