PUBLIC HEARING YES: NO:XX <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: PAM JONES <br />CONTRACT: EXT 2650 <br />GEORGE SMART ARCHITECTS Telephone Number - <br />Hillsborough - 732 -8181 <br />Chapel Hill - 967 -9251 <br />Mebane - 227 -2031 <br />Durham -688 -7331 <br />PURPOSE: To approve a contract for architectural services with George <br />Smart Architects for the 911 Expansion Center Project. <br />BACKGROUND: The firm of George Smart Architects, Raleigh, NC, has been <br />recommended for the architectural work associated with the 911 Center <br />Expansion Project. The selection committee consisted of Nick Waters, <br />EMS Director; Ellen Liston, Assistant County Manager; Paul Thames, <br />County Engineer; and Pam Jones, County Purchasing and Central Services <br />Director. <br />Although three firms were interviewed, George Smart Architects was <br />recommended based on past experience with projects similar to ours, <br />such as the Public Safety Building in Butner, NC. The firm has <br />extensive experience with construction for governmental entities from <br />Federal projects to local governments to schools. <br />This firm is currently designing the Animal Shelter Expansion Project <br />for the County as well. <br />The lump sum fee for this project's architectural services is quoted at <br />$25,000. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Approve contract for architectural services of the <br />911 Center Expansion Project with George Smart Architects, Raleigh, NC; <br />and authorize the Chair to sign on behalf of the Board. <br />
