3
ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT
306F REVERE ROAD
HILLSBOROUGH, NORTH CAROLINA 27278
",I ew
TO: SCHOOLS AD HOC COMMITTEE
FROM: DAVID STANCIL 05
Comprehensive Planner
DATE MAY 22, 1990
RE: PRESENTATION OF COMMITTEE REPORT
On May 17, 1990, the Schools Ad Hoc Committee met in the
Lincoln Center in Chapel Hill. At this meeting, the committee
accepted the findings of the Enrollment Trends Subcommittee,
which had been charged with examining the state's enrollment
projections for the county's two school systems; considering
the feasibility of producing a revised set of enrollment
projections; and defining specific geographic areas of the
County in which enrollment could be expected to grow through
the decade of the 901s.
In summary, the Committee has recommended using the state's
projections as the most feasible, and has also produced data
showing the negative correlation between county population
trends and enrollment trends as well as identifying six areas
of the County where enrollment should increase during the
decade.
At the behest of the Committee, this report was forwarded to
the County Commissioners to be considered at their June 4
meeting. This meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the new
Courthouse in Hillsborough.
The purpose of this memorandum is to invite all committee
members to attend the presentation of this report to the
Commissioners on June 4. This item will be given under the
"Reports" section of the agenda, which means this item
should be one of the earliest items to be considered.
Please contact me if you have questions or comments,
otherwise we look forward to seeing you on June 4.
xc: Moses Carey, Chair, Board of Commissioners
