jw PF
Appendix E
Transportation Goals and Objectives survey
The information is formatted so that items considered to be
most important are at the top of the list. See Table D -1.
The column headed by "AVE." (for average response) indicates
the average relative importance you collectively have to each
item. The column headed with "DEV." (for standard deviation)
indicates how differently you felt about certain issues.
All the items ranked at the top of the goals list support the
motion that a well- designed, adequate thoroughfare system which
routes traffic around the town center, rather than through it,
while protecting the integrity of neighborhoods and historically
significant areas would be consistent with your collective goals.
Bicycles, buses, and taxicabs did not garner a great deal of
enthusiasm, though all could play a role in reducing automobile
traffic.
Better planning and concentration improving the aesthetic
qualities of the area seem to be the most popular objectives.
City control over the subdivision of land appear to be the most
controversial subject, judging from the widely varying responses
it received. One -way streets, on- street parking along major roads
and strip commercial development were considered undesirable.
In comparing the results of this survey to those of other
areas, there is a great deal of similarity in the answers. Close
proximity to burgeoning urban areas probably explains the lack of
concern about matters involving the vitality of Hillsborough's
employment base. Protecting the many positive attributes which
the area already has appears to be the overriding concern.
83
