expansion to five lanes with a direct connection to NC 86 along a
relocated portion of Old NC 10. Baldwin Road is a proposed three -
lane section with a five -lane ultimate section. Northside Drive
is a proposed two --lane facility with a four -lane divided ultimate
section. As previously mentioned, the proposed Western Bypass
runs from NC 57 to US 70.
The loop would continue with the proposed King Edward Road
connecting to Dimmock's Mill.Road. The connection would require
replacement of a railroad underpass and Dimmock's Mill's bridge
over the Eno River. Both facilities are proposed to be three -lane
roads which could ultimately be expanded to five. The close
proximity of Moorefields and the Seven -mile Creek Watershed
(within which Orange County would not want to encourage develop-
ment), could allow the existing two lanes along Dimmock's Mill
Road to be adequate for many years, though some safety
improvements are recommended.
The South Dimmock's Mill extension is proposed as a three -
lane section with a five -lane ultimate tying into Davis Road, also
a three -lane proposed, five -lane ultimate section. Davis Road
would extend across 1 -40 to provide needed connectivity between
Old Chapel Hill Road and NC 86. The loop is completed with NC 86
which has been recommended for widening to a five lane facility.
Several recommendations have been offered to provide con-
tinuity in the present system outside the proposed loop. North of
Hillsborough the proposals include a short three -lane section on
Phelps Road (SR 1551) at NC 57 and a short three -lane section on
both ends of Kenion Road (SR 1335) with the remainder being a
paved two -lane section. South of Hillsborough, Tree Farm Road
(SR 1199) is a proposed two lane facility from SR 1126 to SR 1006.
New Hope Church Road (SR 1723), also in the southern section, is
proposed for a five -lane section from SR 1009 to NC 86 and an
intersection realignment with SR 1710.
EIS]
