The potential for pollution of these reservoirs is a serious concern. <br />Response: Upon additional review, the staff determined that a freeway is not necessary <br />to meet the projected demand and recommends that the concept of the freeway north of <br />Treyburn be eliminated from the plan. From Orange Factory Road northward, Stagsville <br />Road and Quail Roost Road can be upgraded to accommodate traffic volumes projected <br />through ' 201 0. South of Orange Factory Road, through the Treyburn development, the <br />Freeway is recommended. <br />OUTER LOOP - EASTERN FREEWAY <br />US 501 to Oxford Highway: <br />Background: This section of the proposed freeway passes through the Treyburn <br />development and was included on the approved site plan. <br />Comments: General comments opposing Treyburn and freeways in general were received <br />for this section of the freeway. <br />Response: Current zoning permits significant industrial, office, commercial and residential <br />development in this quadrant. If the development density permitted under current zoning, <br />particularly employment, is even partly realized, major road needs will be created. To <br />groundwork to have the needs met <br />include them in this 'Thoroughfare Plan is to lay the <br />in conjunction with the development rather than in reaction to it. The projecti ons <br />indicate that a freeway will be necessary to handle the traffic demands. The alignment <br />recommended appears to be the best to both serve the projected needs and minimize <br />environmental impacts based on the preliminary information available. No revisions are <br />proposed for this section <br />Oxford Highway to 1485: <br />Background: This section of the Outer Loop would provide access between Treyburn and <br />I-85 east of Dwrhara. Interchanges would be located at Old Oxford Road, Hamlin Road <br />east of Red Mill Road, and 1485 at the existing Redwood Road interchange. <br />�: Several citizens are concerned with the environmental impact of this section <br />of freeway. In addition, the North Carolina Chapter of the Sierra Club has pointed out <br />that: the proposed alignment of the freeway traverses the water quality critical area of <br />the Falls Lake; it crosses wildlife mitigation lands set up when the lake was created; it <br />crosses the Eno River near the Red Mill Road crossing.
