Wage 3 of 7 <br />HOW PARTICIPANTS HEARD ABOUT THE FORUMS <br />The mass media (newspapers, radio, and television) <br />accounted for 39% (55 out of 140) of people's knowledge <br />about the forums. The remaining 61% (85) of the respondents <br />indicted they received information from direct mail brochures <br />or from others at various group meetings. <br />WHO THE PARTICIPANTS WERE <br />From the personal information given, respondents were <br />predominately female (82% or 124 out of 156). Their <br />Ym p l oYment status indicated t hat (68% or 96 out of 140) were <br />retired or not employed and (32% or 44 out of 140) were <br />employed full on park:- -time. In the upper age categories were <br />137 respondents: 42% ( 8) were age 79 or over, 29% (40) were <br />between age 60 and 69, 14% (19) were between age 50 and 59 <br />and 15% (20) were ander ,age 50. These percentages would <br />likely hold true for overall attendance. There were 26 <br />respondents who were presently caring for a dependent <br />person. <br />WHY THEY PARTICIPATED <br />To have some idea as to why people came to the forums, <br />we asked for wham participants sought the LTC information. <br />Sixty --two, percent (99 out of 159) of the respondents <br />indicated that it was for themselves, 23% (38) stated it was <br />!or a spouse, parent, friend or other relativel and 14/ (22) <br />sought information for their professional development. <br />DESIGN AND CONTENT OF THE FORUMS <br />Three questions were asked to determine respondents' <br />views about the design and content of the forums: What did <br />you like most about the forum? What did you like least about <br />the forum? and Maw could the program have been improved? <br />Overall, all respondents were extremely positive. There were <br />only 19 suggestions on improving the program such as: <br />distribute resource list (5), include political action plans <br />(2), give more time (E), provide larger name tags (E), cover <br />more medicaid & financial issues (3), improve location, space <br />& sound (3) , send questions ahead (1) , and have consumers ors <br />panel (1). In fact, 11 respondents stated there was no way <br />to improve the program. <br />5 <br />
