Chapel Hill Transit <br />is operated through the Transportation Department of the <br />Town. Funds used for transit operations are segregated <br />and accounted for as a separate enterprise fund from the <br />general operating fund of the Town. A separate tax <br />authority provides local funds for transit. As part of <br />the Park /Ride Lot project costs, the transit system must <br />pay for their portion of the land. The total tract of <br />eighty acres was purchased with bond funds authorized for <br />purchase of park and open spaces for an average cost of <br />$22,500 per acre. The Park /Ride site will use four acres; <br />the land acquisition cost will be $90,000. The required <br />independent appraisal will be done to verify the land <br />value. It is anticipated that the appraisal value on the <br />four acre park /ride lot will be higher than the purchase <br />price since it is located on a prime section of the <br />larger tract with road frontage along two boundaries. <br />The Town has agreed to accept as reimbursement, the <br />original purchase price on a per acre basis, for the <br />Park /Ride site. <br />Construction of Park Ride Lot <br />Also included in the capital program is the construction <br />of a park and ride facility in conjunction with the <br />
