8 <br /> 1 Thom Freeman said the Adult Care and Nursing Home Care boards have a training <br /> 2 period that must be completed prior to being recommended for appointment to the board. He <br /> 3 said the state made this change recently. For the Board to consider and discuss Commissioner Price's concern brought up <br /> 23 at the May 16th meeting about not having more minority representation on the <br /> 24 boards and commissions and how to develop a strategy to address this issue. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 Excerpt from May 16th APPROVED Minutes below in reference to the discussion about <br /> 27 appointments to the Chapel Hill Orange County Visitors Bureau: <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Commissioner Marcoplos asked if the other elected boards appoint their representatives <br /> 30 to the Visitors Bureau. <br /> 31 Commissioner Rich said no, the other elected boards recommend a name, but the final <br /> 32 choice is at the discretion of the BOCC. <br /> 33 Commissioner Jacobs asked if any other elected boards are asked to contribute money <br /> 34 from the taxes being collected for hospitality purposes. He knows this is an ongoing <br /> 35 conversation, but wondered if there has been any movement. <br /> 36 Bonnie Hammersley said an email was sent to the Managers of the non-contributing <br /> 37 municipalities, and the response indicated a willingness to talk about it. She said conversations <br /> 38 are happening, but nothing has come to fruition yet. <br /> 39 Chair Dorosin asked if it would be worthwhile for him to reach out to the Mayors of <br /> 40 Hillsborough and Carrboro. <br /> 41 Bonnie Hammersley said yes. <br /> 42 Commissioner Price said the board of the Visitors Bureau fails to represent the <br /> 43 multicultural population of Orange County. <br /> 44 Commissioner Rich said diversity goes in and out on this board. <br /> 45 Commissioner Price said diversity needs to be maintained. <br /> 46 Commissioner Rich said this is a well taken point, but there is not always diversity <br /> 47 among those willing to serve. <br /> 48 Chair Dorosin said there is an upcoming work session where boards will be discussed. <br /> 49 Chair Dorosin said diversity and seniors <br /> 50 <br />
