School Resource Officers: <br /> In November 2015 a memorandum of understanding (MOU)was signed with the Town of Chapel Hill and <br /> Town of Carrboro Police Departments regarding expectations of our school resource officer(SRO)program. <br /> The MOU included language to clearly identify the role of the SRO versus that of a school administrator. The <br /> MOU also includes language that established professional development expectations and reporting guidelines. <br /> In addition to their local police department required trainings, School Resource Officers have participated in the <br /> following CHCCS professional development classes during the last couple of years: Restorative Practice <br /> Training, Diversity/Equity training,Autism training, and Crisis Prevention Intervention training and re- <br /> certification, Sexual Violence in Students' Lives, Sexual Assault in Teen Lives, What First Responders Need To <br /> Know About Non-Caregiver Assault, and Child Sexual Abuse. Later this month, district training on Multi- <br /> Tiered Systems of Support will be provided. In addition, Carolyn Hutchison and I will be attending a workshop <br /> later this month focused on building effective school resource officer partnerships. <br /> Our MOU with both police departments includes reporting on certain activities within our schools, including the <br /> number of incidents resulting in a student arrest for conduct on school grounds or at a school-sponsored event, <br /> broken down by school; offense; arrestee's age, grade level, race, sex, and disability status; and <br /> disposition/result. The police departments have shared this information for the first half of the current school <br /> year.
