An <br /> age-friendly community provides ways older people can continue to work for pay,volunteer their skills, <br /> and be actively engaged in community life. Some key characteristics include: <br /> • Volunteer and employment options that are meaningful and accessible; <br /> • Training availability; <br /> • Participation by older adults in the community on things like advisory boards, meetings, and <br /> policy planning; <br /> • Appreciation for contributions by older adults; <br /> • Support for entrepreneurship; and <br /> • Fair pay. <br /> lo AP 6R. Connect older adults who are seeking paid employment or meaningful volunteer <br /> experience with a diverse array of opportunities. <br /> 6bieritiv e 6 :I Create effective pathways for older adults to secure fairly compensated employment, <br /> including traditional, alternative, and entrepreneurial options. <br /> 6 �a e, y .1.1 Create an Older Adult Employment Collaborative that is actively involved in <br /> creating and supporting employment opportunities for older workers. Partners should include: <br /> OCDOA, Orange County Department of Social Services (DSS), Orange County Economic <br /> Development, AARP, Chapel Hill and Hillsborough Chambers of Commerce, and Durham <br /> Technical Community College (Durham Tech), National Caucus and Center on Black Aging, Inc. <br /> INDICATORS <br /> 6.1.1a. Program plan is created, outlining best practices, action steps, and implementation timeline. <br /> 6.1.1b. An Older Adult Employment Specialist position, housed at the OCDOA, is funded to coordinate <br /> work of the Older Adult Employment Collaborative, champion older adult employment interests, and <br /> work directly with job seeking older adults. <br /> 6.1.1c. Employment pathways are identified or created, and disseminated through a centralized <br /> location. <br /> 6.1.1d. Interested older adults secure meaningful, fairly compensated employment, including <br /> traditional, alternative, and entrepreneurial options. <br /> RESPONSIBLE AGENCIES: Older Adult Employment Collaborative <br /> 6 �a6, y mm . Promote alternative and entrepreneurial employment opportunities for older <br /> adults. <br /> INDICATORS <br /> 6.1.2a.
