It is connected to lifelong health and wellbeing. Participating in <br /> activities allows older adults to find new skills and continue hobbies, build respect within the <br /> community, and establish supportive relationships. Some important aspects of social participation are: <br /> • Accessibility, affordability, and range of events and programs; <br /> • Type and location of facilities and community integration; <br /> • Promotion and awareness of programs; and <br /> • Reaching out to those who may be isolated. <br /> lo AP cwt 4 I;; Promote diverse and accessible opportunities for participation and engagement of <br /> older adults. <br /> jeet e 4 :I Expand opportunities for educational, intergenerational, and cultural programming. <br /> tt �ate, ytmtmt: Ensure that programming is accessible, sensitive, and inclusive to people based <br /> on a broad variety of needs and abilities. <br /> INDICATORS <br /> 4.1.1a.Assistive technologies (e.g., listening devices, large text or audio, mobility assistance, etc.) are <br /> made available for people who need it. <br /> 4.1.1b. Programming is made available in multiple languages, in partnership with community groups. <br /> 4.1.1c. Consultation is sought out from organizations like North Carolina Assistive Technologies, North <br /> Carolina Division of Deaf and Hard of Hearing, North Carolina Division of Services for the Blind, and Club <br /> Nova. <br /> 4.1.1d. Programming is attended by older adults from diverse populations (e.g., minority, LGBTQ, <br /> refugee, faith communities, and people with physical, mental, cognitive, and/or intellectual disabilities). <br /> RESPONSIBLE AGENCIES: OCDOA, with support from Orange County Health Department and El Centro <br /> Hispano <br /> t �ate, ytmtm . Expand space availability for social/educational programming to meet <br /> anticipated growth of older adult population. <br /> INDICATORS <br /> 4.1.2a. Senior centers are expanded to include more space for recreational activities, kitchen/cooking <br /> space, theater space, common space that encourages groups to intermingle, health services space, <br /> exercise rooms, and storage space. <br /> 4.1.2b. Additional programming for older adults is made available within the senior centers and in other <br /> settings. <br /> 4.1.2c. More people participate at the senior centers. <br /> 4.1.2d.
