Crabtree, Deputy Fire Chief <br />Carrboro Fire Department <br />I <br />~~ <br />~, ~F yu <br />cy <br />.may ~~ ;,~ ~~ <br />Re: Alternative Water Points for The Orchard Subdivision <br />The fire department requests that an approved water source be <br />provided within l.S miles of the new subdivision proposed to be located <br />at the intersection of Jones Ferry Road and Damascus Church Road. <br />This water source must be certified by a registered professional <br />engineer or soil conservationist that the water source will provide a <br />minimum of 30,000 gallons of usable firefighting water and/or be able <br />to deliver a minimum of 250 gallons of water per minute far no less <br />than a two (2) hour duration during a drought with. an average SO-year <br />frequency. An all weather driving surface capable of supporting the <br />imposed loads of a 40,000 lbs. fire pumper must be provided to ensure <br />year-rouxrd accessibility. <br />The developer should make arrangements to obtain a written statement <br />signed by the owner of any private suction water supply point, <br />authorizing its use by the fire department for emergency firefighting use <br />and at least quarterly maintenance backflushing performed by the fire <br />department along with any water supply training deemed necessary by <br />the fire chief. <br />Additionally, a posted and approved reflective sign shall be erected at <br />the location that is visible in both directions for a minimum of 200 feet. <br />301 West Main Sheet, Carrboro, North Cazolina 27510 Phone (919) 918-7349 Fax (919) 932-5359 <br />An Equal Opportunity Employer <br />
