I would bring to the Board an <br /> understanding of how effective public health policy can shape population- level behavior as well <br /> as support effective services and programs to further improve health at the individual level. I <br /> have a Masters in Public Health from the Department of Health Behavior at the UNC Gillings <br /> School of Global Public Health and a PhD in Health Policy from Harvard University. <br /> My work experience has spanned public health topics and projects, domestically and globally, <br /> with direct relevance to health issues facing residents of Orange County, North Carolina. I have <br /> worked as an evaluator for a county health organization conducting community assessments <br /> and evaluating health services, mental health and health promotion programs; directed federal <br /> technical assistance projects to assist State substance abuse prevention agencies design <br /> evidence-based prevention policies and program; and directed an analytical support contract to <br /> monitor State compliance with the SYNAR program, a Federal performance system requiring all <br /> States to reduce youth access to tobacco products. Globally, I have designed community <br /> health assessments, collaborating with local leaders to interpret and use results to design <br /> community health programs and designed, implemented and evaluated vaccination, malaria and <br /> diarrheal disease programs. Over the last 8 years I have focused extensively on tobacco control <br /> policy. Before moving to North Carolina, I was the research director for a DC based advocacy <br /> organization and provided assistance to civil society organizations in low-and middle-income <br /> countries to use data and evidence to advocate for effective tobacco control policies.
