S <br />Surveys were pre-printed with the property owner's (or occupant's) name, address, and phone <br />number. The interviewer was instructed to call each household once during their shift and forward <br />incomplete surveys to the following shift for an additional attempt. Five phone calls on different <br />shifts and days were attempted to households before labeling a resident as unresponsive. One person was <br />diagnosed with two different forms of cancer resulting in 29 reported cancer cases. Of the 28 people <br />diagnosed, 15 are deceased, I 1 have cancers in remission, and 2 currently have cancer. The <br />race/ethnicity breakdown of diagnosed residents showed that 18 were African American and 10 were <br />Caucasian. The gender breakdown shows 15 females arrd 13 males diagnosed with cancer, <br />Discussion of Reported Cancers in Alphabetical Order <br />Bladder Cancer -Urinary bladder cancer is higher among whites than African Americans. Rates <br />are even lower for Hispanics, Asians, Pacific Islanders, and Native Americans (National Cancer <br />Institute, 2006). This cancer is typically diagnosed among people aged 40 or older. <br />Two study participants reported bladder cancer diagnosis. One participant was Caucasian and the <br />other was African American. One of the two participants explained that their colorectal cancer <br />metastasized to their bladder.
