3`'i <br />Results <br />Cancer incidence rates were calculated for Orange County and compared with the corresponding State <br />rates, Estimated populations from the State Demographer's office2 were used to calculate the rates.. <br />Note that all rates that appear in this report were age-adjusted to the United States 2000 population, as <br />estimated by the United States Census, All rates are expressed as cases per 100,000 population. <br />(These data should not be compared with published National Cancer Institute SEER incidence data or <br />with incidence data from the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries without verifying <br />that the same standard population was used for age-adjusting the rates.) <br />Table 1 shows age-adjusted incidence rates for cancer sites under study for Orange County and North <br />Carolina. These cases were all diagnosed between 1990 and 2003. Incidence rates for melanoma in <br />Orange County are slightly elevated.
