1 <br /> 1 Attachment 2 <br /> 2 <br /> 3 DRAFT MINUTES <br /> 4 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 5 REGULAR MEETING <br /> 6 January 24, 2017 <br /> 7 7:00 p.m. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, January 24, <br /> 10 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitted Building, in Hillsborough, N.C. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Mark Dorosin and Commissioners Mia <br /> 13 Burroughs, Earl McKee, Mark Marcoplos, Renee Price and Penny Rich <br /> 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Barry Jacobs <br /> 15 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 16 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br /> 17 Travis Myren and Clerk to the Board Donna Baker (All other staff members will be identified <br /> 18 appropriately below) <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Chair Dorosin called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. <br /> 21 Chair Dorosin said Commissioner Jacobs would be unable to attend tonight. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> 24 Chair Dorosin noted the following items at the Commissioners' places: <br /> 25 - PowerPoint for item 8-a (two presentations) <br /> 26 <br /> 27 PUBLIC CHARGE <br /> 28 Chair Dorosin dispensed with the reading of the Public Charge. <br /> 29 <br /> 30 2. Public Comments <br /> 31 <br /> 32 a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> 33 None <br /> 34 <br /> 35 b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> 36 (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda <br /> 37 below.) <br /> 38 <br /> 39 3. Petitions by Board Members <br /> 40 Commissioner Price said she had two items pertaining to alternative programming for <br /> 41 students. She met with Boomerang and Volunteers for Youth, who serve teenagers and youth <br /> 42 throughout Orange County. She said both organizations are in need of transportation for <br /> 43 students both on school days and on weekends. She said these organizations will be able to <br /> 44 admit more students if there is better transportation. She petitioned the new Director of <br /> 45 Transportation to explore ways in which the County may be able to provide bus or minivan <br /> 46 transit. <br /> 47 Commissioner Price said the Boomerang program could serve many more youth if there <br /> 48 was a facility in Hillsborough available for use. She petitioned staff talk to Orange County <br /> 49 Schools (OCS) about its acquisition of Orange Charter School's property, and possibly making <br /> 50 room for this program there. <br />
