10 <br /> ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT REPORT— TOWN OF CHAPEL HILL <br /> • We are operating under a Commercial Development Strategy that was developed 2015- <br /> 2016 with the Vision of"Taking our place on the map of like cities for research and <br /> development." <br /> • Working with our Engineering division to evaluate what might be built on the Wallace <br /> Parking Deck. We are thinking this could be reduced rate office space and we might <br /> partner with a private developer to see this happen. <br /> • We are looking at starting a Maker organization to help facilitate the interest of people <br /> who are moving into the Maker industry. Held one organizational meeting. <br /> • Working with UNC to think about critical strategies related to Entrepreneurship and the <br /> possibility of creating an Innovation Council to help grow our private support for <br /> entrepreneurs. It would have strong private section representation to help encourage <br /> involvement from that sector. <br /> • Continue to work with County staff on drafting an Incentives Policy for further <br /> consideration. <br /> • We are working with our Parking division to explore growing our parking opportunities <br /> in downtown and having a greater percentage under single management. <br /> • Working with Planning Dept. to draft an advanced manufacturing/research/flex zone for <br /> approximately 50 acres off Millhouse Road.
