What community needs will the project As the state's farmland is lost to subdivisions, business offices
serve: and shopping centers, North Carolina also loses the rural culture
connected to the land. It is important to remember that no
matter where you live, North Carolina farmland is a part of your
life. It is the center of cuisine in our state, with its rich traditions
of home-style meals, famous barbeque and cookoffs. It is the
defining feature for the origin of many of our towns, including
one of the largest, Durham.Today, agriculture is in all of our
daily lives. It is included the clothes we wear, the food we eat,
and the fuel we put in our cars. To preserve agricultural land
is to preserve ourselves, and our way of life.Another component
that must be considered is the deep connection many share to
the natural beauty of farming communities, which make up a
major portion of our rural areas. We retreat to these locations to
escape our busy lives, while others use these areas to support
their families. This project not only helps to keep farms viable,
supporting the preservation of farmland and natural resources,
but also helps them to thrive and support the cultural resources
of North Carolina. Our clients advertise that they purchase from
NC farmers, deepening the public's connection to farmers and
raising awareness with consumers. As our clients continue to
source locally grown products, they are reconnecting the farmer
to the consumer. Finally, a supply chain for NC-grown food,
strengthened by food processors, improves North Carolinians'
access to local, nutritious produce.
Illustrate any permanent jobs to be The CROP fund allows PFAP clients to buy more food and grow
established by the project and estimate their businesses. Business growth will require clients to hire
their value to North Carolina agriculture/ additional food processing professionals, management
agribusiness sector: employees, and business services. Clients will also hire logistical
employees like truck drivers. Beyond clients, farms will hire
additional employees to harvest additional crops grown for
client business. In addition, PFAP clients may use co-processors
in North Carolina to add value to farm crops before it reaches
PFAP.These co-processors will hire additional employees to
process additional crops. These jobs will create a stronger local
food economy in North Carolina. In the long run, PFAP hopes our
local food manufactures will help influence larger manufacturers
to use local produce inputs. Mainstream adoption of locally
sourced products will create sustainable wealth for farmers for
years to come.
