Fikes <br /> Grant Application <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBER- <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill - 968-4501 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> PURPOSE: To authorize the execution of an Emergency Shelter Grant <br /> Application. <br /> BACKGROUND: The N.C. Department of Economic and Community Development <br /> (ECD) has announced the availability of additional <br /> Emergency Shelter Grant Program (ESGP) funds. The purpose <br /> of this program is to assist families and individuals who <br /> are homeless primarily due to their economic circumstances . <br /> These grants will be awarded to local governments to help <br /> improve the quality and availability of emergency shelters <br /> and services for the homeless in their communities. Since <br /> 1987 , the County has been awarded a total of $38 , 935 in <br /> ESGP funds. These funds were directed to the Inter-Faith <br /> Council for the operation of their Community Shelter . <br /> Again, the Housing and Community Development Department is <br /> proposing submission of an ESGP application with Inter- <br /> Faith Council acting as subrecipient . Inter-Faith Council <br /> has agreed to provide the matching resources necessary. <br /> This application will request $37 , 500 to be used for <br /> operations and services at the IFC shelter . The deadline <br /> date for submission is April 10 , 1990 . County staff have <br /> met with representatives of Inter-Faith Council to discuss <br /> and prepare the proposed application. The application has <br /> been forwarded to the appropriate County officials for <br /> review and comment . <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : <br /> Authorize submission of an Emergency Shelter Grant <br /> Application and authorize the Chair to sign the Application <br /> on behalf of the County. <br />
