ORANGE COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT 3
306F REVERE ROAD
HILLSBOROUGH, NORTH CAROLINA :7:78
M E M O R A N D U M
TO: John Link, County Manager
FROM: Gene Bell, Planner III 6/S
RE: LIAISON WITH THE N.C. DEPARTMENT OF TrRANSPORTATION
DATE: October 19 , 1989
COPIES: Marvin Collins, Planning Director
Transportation Advisory Subcommittee (TAS )
At its meeting on Tuesday, October 17, the TAS discussed
the issue of County relations with NCDOT. This discussion
was prompted by the presentation to the County Commissioners
on October 2 concerning the Efland interchange(s ) . Also
•
related to this was a meeting on September 27 attended by
Chris Best, Barry Jacobs, Larry Meisner (transportation plan
consultant) , Danny Rogers and Kim Lash of NCDOT, and myself
to discuss progress on the Orange County Transportation Plan. '
At that meeting a question about the Efland interchange was
raised and Danny's response was the opposite of what NCDOT
presented to the Commissioners on October 2. This prompted
the TAS to ask, "Who really speaks for NCDOT?"
The TAS has asked me to relay the following to you for
consideration as future Commissioner agenda items :
1) The appointment of a County representative to serve
as formal liaison for all contact with NCDOT. The
County Engineer or a Planning Department
representative were suggested as possibilities; and
2 ) The appointment of a NCDOT representative to serve
as formal liaison for all contact with Orange
County.
