7 <br /> This includes disabilities resulting from pregnancy. Sick <br /> leave may also be used for absences due to medical and <br /> dental appointments or to care for an ill family member. <br /> For the latter purpose, a family member is defined as <br /> spouse, parents, and children. <br /> 7 .2 An employee who retires from Orange County with ten ( 10) <br /> or more years of service, and whose last employer <br /> providing major medical coverage was Orange County, <br /> will be covered, upon request, by the County's group <br /> health insurance plan. When a retiree becomes eligible <br /> for Medicare, Medicare will become the primary insurer <br /> and the County will become the secondary insurer. The <br /> retiree will continue paying premiums at the current <br /> rates. An employee with less than ten ( 10) years of <br /> service with Orange County may continue coverage on the <br /> County's group plan at their own cost for an eighteen <br /> (18) month period. <br /> 7 .3 Under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation <br /> Act, Orange County will continue health care coverage to <br /> persons who would otherwise lose coverage under a health <br /> care plan due to specific events provided the employee <br /> agrees to pay, and pays, the cost of this coverage. The <br /> employee is entitled to 18 months of coverage due to <br /> termination or reduction of workforce. The spouse or <br /> dependent child of an employee is entitled to 36 months <br /> of coverage for the following reasons: <br /> — death of the covered employee- termination of employee <br /> parent/spouse <br /> - reduction in employee parent/spouse's working hours <br /> - divorce or legal separation <br /> - an employee parent/spouse is entitled to Medicare <br /> benefits <br /> - a dependent is no longer a dependent <br /> 4.0 Family Leave <br /> 14.1 Three (3) consecutive days of paid family leave may be <br /> taken by a full-time or part-time permanent or proba- <br /> tionary employee upon the birth of the employee's child. <br /> This leave must be taken during the child's first week <br /> of life. <br />
