REIMER, HEALTH DIRECTOR(///'
IRECTOR(///'f l"
DATE: FEBRUARY 23, 1990
RE: CARDENS MOBILE HOME PARK SITE VISIT OF 2/23/90
On February 23, 1990, at approximately 2 p.m. , Paul Thames,
Tony Laws, Ron Holdway and myself met with Authur Mouberry,
Regional Supervisor and Larry South, Regional Manager, both
of the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health and
Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Management. Mr.
Mouberry reviewed with, us the previously analyzed samples of
effluent from the sand filter at the Cardens Mobile Home
Park. Most of these samples were not in compliance with
standards for such systems. Therefore Mr. Mouberry has taken
decisive action to see that the owner of the park, Mr, Joel
Williams, would discontinue discharging unacceptable effluent
by installing a new system prior to April 30, 1990. Site
preparation for a new package treatment plant was obviously
underway and Mr. Mouberry is of the opinion that the owner
will complete the project within the deadline.
The test results collected so far are not sufficiently
detailed to provide evidence of a health risk because they
are indicators rather than definitive measures. Therefore I
have requested that our Environmental Health Director, Tony
Laws, obtain samples both from the drainage ditch and from
the pooling of water behind the home of a neighbor by the
name of Mr. Stephenson. These samples will be sent to the
state laboratory for more definitive determination of
pathogens.
I have also requested that the quality of the community water
supply system of the mobile home park be determined and that
samples of the water supply be taken from the systems of any
of the neighbors Mall, hbors who grant permission.
SOUTHERN ORANGEDFFICE: Carr Mill Suite 225, 100 N.Greensboro St., Carrboro,N.C.27510, (919)942-4168
