ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Action Agenda
Item No V_ •
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: March 5, 1990
SUBJECT: Grant Project Ordinance - Rental Rehab II
DEPARTMENT Budget PUBLIC HEARING YES NO X
ATTACHMENT(8) INFORMATION CONTACT Budget
Office, Extension 490
Proposed Grant Project Ordinance TELEPHONE NUMBER
Hillsborough 732-8181
Chapel Hill 968-4501
Mebane 227-2031
Durham 688-7331
PURPOSE: To adopt a grant project ordinance for the Rental Rehab II
program administered by the Housing and Community Development
Department.
BACKGROUND: Last year, the Board of Commissioners agreed to accept a
$50,000 federal grant to assist rental property owners
rehabilitate their rental property. The program involves
property owners applying to Housing and Community
Development for federal funds to assist in rental
property repairs. Rental property owners must match the
federal dollars received on a one for one basis. Upon
verification of eligibility, Housing and Community
Development secures the services of a qualified
contractor, passes through payment for the
rental property owner's share of the repair cost, and
monitors work in progress. Federal funds are received by
the County on a reimbursement basis after project
completion. This action will establish a project
ordinance through which the Rental Rehab II program will
be administered.
RECOMMENDATION(S) : Approve the proposed grant project ordinance for
the Rental Rehab II program.
