.Anlbll H <br /> RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS OF TEE CAMP <br /> DRESSER A MCKEE UNIVERSITY LAKE WATERSHED STUDY, MARCH, 1989 • <br /> WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina has granted to the Orange Water and <br /> Sewer Authority (OWASA) a leasehold on University Lake and ownership of the water <br /> contained therein, which the Authority holds in public trust; and <br /> WHEREAS, it is now and has been for many years the established practice of <br /> OWASA and the public water supply industry in general to rely both on source <br /> protection and treatment technology to assure the quality of its product; and <br /> WHEREAS, OWASA employs a dependable and proven technology at its treatment <br /> plant, but relies upon local governments for protection of water quality in <br /> University Lake; and <br /> WHEREAS, OWASA engaged the nationally recognized consulting firm of Camp <br /> Dresser & McKee to provide the local governments with a reliable and technical <br /> information basis for selecting and implementing land management controls in the <br /> watershed; and <br /> WHEREAS, Camp Dresser & McKee submitted its final report entitled University <br /> Lake Watershed Study, March, 1989. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: <br /> 1 . That the Board of Directors of Orange Water and Sewer Authority endorses <br /> and supports the- findings and recommendations of Camp Dresser & McKee's University <br /> Lake Watershed Study, March, 1989. <br /> 2. That the Authority reaffirms its commitment to provide high quality <br /> drinking water through a combination of source protection and water treatment, <br /> and hereby considers the preferred and safest way to protect water quality is to <br /> use reasonable means to limit possible contaminants from entering the water <br /> reservoir. <br /> 3. That the Authority encourages Orange County, Chatham County, Carrboro, <br /> and Chapel Hill to use the Camp Dresser & McKee report as the technical basis for <br /> a comprehensive University Lake watershed protection program. <br /> Adopted this 11th day of October, 1989. <br /> (11-4-440. <br /> Verla C.
