43 <br />The program will increase the knowledge/skills of middle and high school students of/on <br />the dangers of tobacco use and how to avoid use, the hannful effects of secondhand smoke <br />and how to prevent exposure, and pro tobacco mazketing influences and how to protect <br />oneself from those influences. The "Love Our Lungs" campaign will help parents/guardians <br />increase their lnowledge of the dangers of youth exposure to SHS and skills to protect youth <br />from exposure. It is expected that this knowledge and skill set will lead to youth and adults <br />viewing tobacco use negatively (attitudes) and modify behavior to avoid tobacco use or <br />exposure to secondhand smoke. This, in addition to changes in the physical environment, <br />will lead to fewer youth tobacco users and reduced exposure to SHS. <br />B. Local );valuation Plan: <br />Include in your response: <br />• Description of school and community policies, media and program services you will <br />monitor during the length of the program. <br />• Description of the procedures to measure progress toward goals and objectives <br />• Description of how the evaluation results will be communicated to the proposed service <br />azea. <br />The program will monitor the following school policies tluough the assistance of school <br />health coordinators within OCS and CHCCS: 100% TFS, ATS, NOT. In pazticular, the <br />program will conduct environmental inspections for 100% TFS signage, NOT recruitment <br />materials, and "L,ove Our Lungs". Sporting event announcements will be monitored through <br />atliletic director co~rmation and random attendance of sporting events, The program will <br />also monitor the smoking policies of family restaurants and youth-oriented hangouts.. <br />The program staff, school health coordinators, and peer educators regularly monitor media <br />for relevant developments and coverage of the program's achievements. All program- <br />specific media messages aze kept in a scrap book on file in the health department. <br />Additionally, important correspondence with key school, community, and county leaders are <br />kept on file in the health depaz~tment, <br />The program will monitor its services according to the local objective-specific measurements <br />and strategies described in the Program Plan above. The OCHD is pursuing a department <br />wide effort to measure customer/client satisfaction and once these measurement tools are <br />developed they will be applied to the youth tobacco-use prevention program, <br />Progress will be measured by employing process objectives for each outcome-oriented local <br />objective described in the Program Plan. Process objectives will ensure that activities are <br />being carried out in a timely fashion and in order to meet key milestones. <br />Conununication of evaluation results will be done both formally and informally with the <br />general public and key partners. Results of evaluation will be shared tluough media for the <br />general public. Results of evaluation will be shazed with key partners through swmnary <br />reports and correspondence through meetings, emails, and telephone conversations. At the <br />end of the grant period a final summazy of the status of proposed goals and objectives will be <br />compiled and communicated to both the general public, partners, and other stakeholders. <br />17 <br />
