~-a <br />The current program has received extensive coverage tluough print, radio, and TV media. <br />The T.R.U. prograni was awarded a monthly column in the News of Orange County which <br />featured azticles written by youth peer educators on a variety of youth tobacco-use prevention <br />issues. In addition to contributions to the Chapel Hill News and the Chapel Hill Herald, <br />youth peer educators have been interviewed on local news chamiels during training events, <br />and featured on NCCU's 90.7 spazush language radio program called "Cita Dominical". One <br />Orange County youth was featured on the MTV Music Awards T.R,U. commercial <br />developed by CapStrat. Additionally, the program coordinator has been asked to appear as a <br />guest on two statewide TV programs: Univision's Enfoque Latino (Spanish) and UNC-TV's <br />High School Assembly. Local school-based media has included articles in high school <br />newspapers, announcements at high school sporting events, and announcements over school <br />intercorns and television stations. All of the above mentioned media, except school <br />newspaper advertisements, have been earned at no cost to the program. The program <br />recently initiatied a Smoke-Free Dining Campaign that is featured on the OCHD's webpage <br />and has distributed smoke-free decals and certificates to 20 OC restaurants, Additional paid <br />media is proposed for the promotion and strengthening of this campaign and the school- <br />based social norms campaign. <br />Youth will continue to be the driving force behind the program. The program staff have <br />taken a "youth-led, adult-assisted" approach throughout current progranunatic activities and <br />plan on expanding the scope of youth influence in the proposed plan. More than 40 peer <br />educators meet on a bi-weeldy basis with the program coordinator to plan prevention <br />activities, develop and schedule educational presentations, and coordinate smoke-free <br />advocacy efforts with local establislunents. Peer educators are also responsible for training <br />newly recruited peer educators in attain-the-trainers model. <br />Outcomes and Local Evaluation Plan <br />(4,000 characters) 10% of Total Score <br />As a condition of receiving a grant awazd, HWTFC requires that each grantee participate in a <br />state-level outcomes study using acomputer-based activity tracking system, "indicator <br />Progress Tracking System" (iPTS), provided by the UNGCH, Department of Family <br />Medicine, in collaboration with the NC Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch, and funded <br />by HWTFC. The iPTS system tracks specific program indicators to measure project progress <br />toward meeting goals and objectives. All local evaluation efforts should be consistent with <br />the overall evaluation outcome program, For purposes of local evaluation, you will need to <br />determine how you measure the quality and quazrtity of your proposed teen tobacco use <br />prevention and cessation activities. <br />A.
