~~ <br />Local Objective 2: By June 2009, 75% of middle and high school students caught in violation <br />of the school tobacco policy will have attended 4 sessions of the ATS program. This will be <br />measured tlu'ough school health coordinators accessing district disciplinary recording <br />systems (NOWISE, etc..) <br />Strategies: The program coordinator, TRU peer educators, and OCS and CHCCS health <br />coordinators will promote ATS awareness among teachers, student assistance counselors, and <br />administrators through in-person meetings and periodic written correspondence.. All pazties <br />will convene at the end of each semester to monitor tobacco policy violations and the self- <br />refenal of violators to the ATS programs.. <br />Timeline: Ongoing throughout grant period. Review of violations at end of each semester. <br />Local Objective 3: By June 2009, each OCS and CHCCS high school will have conducted at <br />minimum tluee NOT programs (1 per year) led by a trained school-based NOT facilitator. <br />Tlis will be measured by yearly NOT facilitator attendance records. <br />Strategies: ATS/NOT facilitators will be encouraged to apply for ALA NOT mini-grants to <br />fund NOT programs. Intensive efforts will be made by TRU peer educators, ATS/NOT <br />facilitators, and the progrann coordinator to increase teacher and administrator awazeness of <br />the NOT program's supportive, non-punitive approach. Additional, peer educator-led, <br />recruiting will be done using school-based media and offering incentives to youth smokers <br />who successfully complete the NOT program. <br />Timeline: Recruitment efforts will take place daring the beginning of each semester. NOT <br />programs must start with at least 10 weeks left in the semester unless NOT is modified by the <br />facilitator to take less time. These efforts will be continuous during the grant period, <br />Goa12: Work with CHCCS and OCS districts to enhance the enforcement of their 100% <br />TFS policies by communicating the 100% TFS policy to all students, staff, and visitors. <br />Local Objective 1: By June 2009, all CHCCS middle and high schools will have on display <br />1 TFS banner, 2 TFS sandwich boards, and 2 TFS outdoor wall signs, This will be measured <br />by an environmental inspection conducted by the program coordinator and confirmed by the <br />school principal. (Note: OCS middle and high schools currently have above signage in <br />place.) <br />Strategies: Signs will be purchased through the TPCB vendor azid distributed with a <br />principal letter describing their proper display. Health coordinators will follow up with <br />principals if barriers to their proper display are detected. <br />Timeline: signage will be distributed to each school by the end of the semester of the 2005- <br />2006 school yeaz, Signs should be posted by the first week of the second semester of the <br />same year and left on display indefinitely. <br />Local Objective 2: By .Imre 2009, all CHCCS azrd OCS high schools will have <br />institutionalized the practice of reminding sporting event attendees of the school's 100% TFS <br />policy via an announcement during each game. This will be measured by a letter from each <br />high school's athletic director confirming inclusion of the 100% TFS announcement.. <br />Strategies: Results from the UNC-SPH Tackle Smoking Project will be consolidated and <br />shared with school principals and athletic directors. A sample announcement will be given to <br />school athletic directors with instructions to require game announcers to read the <br />announcement, <br />Timeline: Communication with athletic directors will occur prior to the start of the 2005- <br />2006 school year in order to have the announcement in use for fall sporting events. <br />Announcements will be read indefinitely. <br />10 <br />
