2 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION DEVELOPMENT PLAN UPDATE <br /> Orange County's Coordinated Agency Transportation (CAT) provides human <br /> service transportation for Orange County human service agencies. CAT <br /> operates nine buses and fifteen vans, providing both fixed route and <br /> demand-responsive service. Participating CAT member agencies are the Orange <br /> County Department on Aging, Orange-Chatham Comprehensive Health Services <br /> (OCCHS), Joint . Orange-Chatham Community Action (JOCCA) , <br /> Orange-Person-Chatham Mental Health Center, Orange Enterprises, Cedar Grove <br /> Day Care Center, and Wake Opportunities-Headstart Program. The geographic <br /> service area is rural Orange County, outside the Chapel Hill - Carrboro <br /> Public Transit Service Area. The system anticipates 99,317 riders in FY90, with an operating <br /> budget totaling S 300,000. <br /> Work Plan • <br /> Inventory of Existing Transportation Services <br /> - Interview CAT and collect data on the consolidated system <br /> including vehicle inventory, vehicle utilization chart, budget <br /> information and major origins and destinations. <br /> - Survey human service agencies (listed above) currently contracting <br /> with CAT through abbreviated mail-out questionnaires to obtain <br /> transportation budget information for activities occurring outside <br /> the coordinated transportation system and perceived unmet need(s) . <br /> - Interview agencies (listed above) not fully participating in the <br /> coordinated system to determine why they are not participating <br /> (note that agencies should not be aggressively pursued if they <br /> have indicated that they are not interested). If interested, <br /> collect data including the vehicle inventory, vehicle utilization <br /> chart, budget, and major origins and destinations. <br /> Initial Steering Committee Meeting COMPLETED BY APRIL 30, 1990 <br /> - Discuss the goals and objectives for the transportation service <br /> within Orange County, unmet needs as perceived by steering <br /> committee members, and problems/concerns associated with the <br /> existing system. <br /> - Briefly summarize information received as a result of the survey <br /> work to confirm the Consultant's understanding of the current <br /> provision of human service agency transportation in Orange County. <br />
