The County' s PIPR (Public <br /> Information Public Relations) Committee initially identified locations/departments <br /> that were linked by the nature of their services. Exterior and interior signage was <br /> identified as a way to direct citizens from one location to the other. The project <br /> could then be replicated at other county government locations. <br /> Citizens seeking permits and information regarding building/land improvements need <br /> . ,se.rvices from the Planning Department and Tax and Land Records. These buildings are <br /> two miles apart and are nof near other government buildings. The first signage <br /> project was to link these two buildings. <br /> Using inhouse expertise, a prototype for exterior and interior signs was developed. <br /> • The prototype used-foe the exterior signs have the location of all county government <br /> offices. They were strategically placed so they could be read from the street. The <br /> interior signs were located at all major entrances and showed the floorplan for the <br /> building. - " <br /> The costs for the initial project to erect interior and exterior signs at two buildings <br /> was $730: The co5tfor`expanding the project to other county facilities is $165 for <br /> each exterior sigh -and $225 for each interior sign. <br /> The results have proven the project successful . Citizen, press and employee comments <br /> have all been positive. <br /> PROBLEM/CONCERN (Describe the problem,need or concern in your county/department that prompted the <br /> development of the program. Describe the objectives of the program) <br /> The Orange County seat (Hillsborough) is thirteen miles north of the major population <br /> center (Chapel Hill ) . The county maintains fifteen major buildings within these two <br /> areas.
