1990 PROGRAM SUMMARY
RESULTS (continued)
4. The CAT Program arrangement for short term backup vehicle
loan has reduced or eliminated the disruption of CAT
agency client service.
5. Increased agency ridership has improved with timesharing
and rimesharing among CAT agencies and short-term leasing
to over 25 non-CAT agencies such as Economic Development,
DWASA, Historic Society, Chapel Hill Parks & Recreation,
the ArtsCenter, 0CIM, and Chamber of Commerce to name a
few.
6. The CAT Program Plan was instrumental in securing $18,948
from the N.C. Dept. of Transportation for additional
service under a Elderly and Handicapped Transportation
Assistance Program.
7. The CAT Program implemented a computerized vehicle repair
and maintenance program which enabled the CAT Program to
keep accurate data on all vehicles necessary for yearly
replacement grants.
8. The CAT Program also established a coordinated inter-city
courier for county departments and the Mental Health
Center resulting in cost effective delivery of daily mail
and supplies. The County savings is estimated at
$ 10, 000 per year if operating its own independent
courier.
9.. With the installation of two way radios with dual
frequencies in each vehicle, the CAT drivers have the
capacity to communicate not only with the CAT dispatcher,
but directly with Emergency Management Service (911 )
for assistance in life threatening situations and with
the County Garage for mechanic or towing service. This
has alreaddy proved to be invaluable for one heart attack
situation on a CAT van.
10. CAT Administration also has negotiated with and monitored
local vehicle maintenance vendors on behalf of individual
CAT agencies in order to ensure the best possible service
is obtained.
11 . The CAT coordination benefits have lead to additional
agency requests (County Social Services and Health Depts)
for CAT membership involving daily ride or timesharing
arrangements for their clients.
INDEXING INDENTIFIERS For example,a program in which a county contacted with a city to
List 5 words or phrases that best de- provide low interest renovation housing loans to low and moderate
and can be used income home owners might consist of the following identifiers:
scribe your program (1)Low Interest Dousing Loans
to index your program.
