8 <br /> Page 2 of 2 Bill Ward <br /> Commission for the Environment <br /> Background, education and experience relevant to this board: <br /> I have an undergraduate degree in physics and as an undergraduate helped the University of <br /> Iowa physics department investigate how the atmosphere altered star light. In the late 1970s I <br /> helped a physicist at Iowa State University study the characteristics of passive solar design for <br /> single family residences. Since then, especially in the last decade, I have studied the work of <br /> Dr. James Hansen, a fellow graduate of the University of Iowa and one of the world s leading <br /> climatologists. I believe that this background prepares me to help the CFE choose a path for <br /> the Orange County government that will reduce the threat of climate change. <br /> Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br /> I believe that our natural environment is a precious resource that must be preserved. I am <br /> especially interested in promoting the adoption of renewable energy technologies in Orange <br /> County to minimize the threat posed by global climate change.
