POLICY #: 4.15 PAGE 2 OF 6 <br />Duties and responsibilities of the night shift Med Passer: <br />Narcotic Drug Count contd; <br />2. When an inmate is being transferred out to DOC, or FEDERAL inmate is transported AND his/her <br />narcotic medication needs to go wfth him/her. The med passer shall document the narcotic count of <br />the inmate with the Shift Supervisor/Med passer. Each will initial the MAR narcotic control sheet to <br />validate their count.. <br />3. When a narcotic medication comes into the Jail ft should be counted and documented by 2 Med <br />Passers or a Med Passer and Shift Supervisor, If it is approved by the Jaii Mealth Provider to be <br />administered it should be documented on the narcotic count sheet and counted as listed above.. If it <br />is not approved for administration ft should be counted, count documented and sealed with tamper <br />proof seal. Daily count of that medication should continue until destroyed or inmate releasedl <br />transferred out, <br />4. When narcotic medication is designated for destruction..,. <br />5. When destroying narcotic drugs. (They shall be destroyed only under supervision of the Jaii <br />Administrator or Detention Supervisor and will be documented on the back of the MAR.) <br />6. Glucose Monitoring insulin administration. <br />• In the front of the MAR Logbook the list of inmates requiring glucose monitoring or insulin <br />administration should be reviewed. <br />• The Med Passer will take the Glucose Monitoring tray (containing jail approved supplies and those <br />appropriate for testing,} to each cell where the inmate will be tested and/or administered insulin. <br />• Inmates requiring testing/Insulin administration will be identified by their arm band, <br />• Blood sugar readings will be obtained and documented on the MAR. <br />• Inmates requiring insulin administration will be given an alcohol pad and pre-filled syringe with <br />appropriate dose/type of insulin. The inmate will administer the insulin and return the used syringe <br />to the med passer for proper disposal. <br />The med passer will document administration of the insulin on the MAR. <br />• The med passer will ensure ail used supplies are removed from the cell and properly disposed, <br />7. MAR Log and Med cart <br />• The Med Passer is to check the MAR book before leaving the medical room to ensure the MARs are <br />in alphabetical orcJer by Inmate name and have Inmate photo/identification sticker attached. <br />• Med Pesser shall check MAR's and ensure changes/updates are reflected on the MAR, <br />Changes/updates of Treatments should also be reflected on the MAR. New Diabetic inmates should <br />also be added to Glucose Monitoring list if applicable. <br />• The drawers of the medication cart are clearly marked Annex and Old .tail. Each drawer shall have <br />all drug cards filed by Celi Block Dearly marked with each inmate's name in alphabetical order. <br />• Medication cards should follow in orrier as listed on the MAR and shall have each inmate's <br />photo/identification attached. <br />• Night Med Passer will ensure Med cart and MAR are accurate Friday evening to facilitate weekend <br />Med Passer medication administration. <br />8. Bed-time Medication Administration <br />• Before leaving the medication room for medication administration, the Med Passer shall prepare the <br />medication cart with necessary supplies, <br />Med Passer will enter their I.D. button in the medication probe before the medication pass, Time of <br />entry and exit of each cell by the Med Passer will be documented by this probe. <br />• When administering any drug to an Inmate, the inmate shall approach the Med Passer and display <br />his/her photo-identification arm band.. The arm band is to be viewed for verification of inmate to <br />receive medication. If an Inmate does not have an arm band, the Shift Supervisor is to be <br />notified for their intervention. Medications are not to be administered to Inmates without Photo- <br />identification arm bands, The med passer will administer all tablets and capsules by pouring the <br />medication from a medication cup into the inmate's hand. Disposable medication paper cups may <br />be given to the inmate when administering medication. <br />• The med passer will ensure that the Inmate swallows the administered medication. <br />• The med passer will administer inhalants by the onlered administration method. <br />• The med passer will administer creams, powders, liquids, etc... in disposable medication paper <br />cups. <br />• The med passer will initial the MAR to verify administered medication. <br />
