POLICY #: 4.15 PAGE 5 OF 7 <br />Duties and responsibilities of the afternoon shift Med Passer: <br />Federal Inmates Responsibilities contd; <br />New FEDERAL inmates are to be medically processed by the Daytime or Afternoon Med passers. <br />ff emergency situations prevent processing from being completed, the Night Med passer should <br />complete processing. Verbal communication between off going and on coming Med Passers as <br />to what has been completed is imperative. <br />Check to see if any Federal medical transport summary sheets confidential envelopes for inmates <br />booked in during that day have not been opened. <br />Open any unopened confidential envelopes to ascertain if any immediate needed medication needs <br />to be orciered before 1730 hours. <br />• Call Medical provider to give order on medication order from MAST.. <br />Fax order to MAST for any immediate needed medication. <br />Read over the medical information on the sheets to ascertain if any needed medical care needs to <br />be done. i,e. TB tests , BP checks, Accu checks, etc... <br />Pull any immediate needed medication in stock from the cabinet. Sign out the medication from the <br />stock cabinet on a medication receipt in the cabinet. <br />• Make labels with photo id and adhere to all new medication cards or containers, <br />Label blank MAR with inmate photo id and write all new medicine information on MAR according to <br />MAR guidelines. <br />Put medication in cart, MAR in MAR Log and put inmate transport summary sheet in inmates' <br />medical file, (If inmate has no medical file, create a new one for them) <br />13. Medical Record Maintenance Responsibilities <br />• Med passers shall be responsible for placing inmates records in the inmate's medical folder <br />• Each Med passer is responsible for accurately filing Inmate's Medical Chart in the file cabinet with <br />completion of use. <br />• Inmate MARS should be filed in chart if Inmate is transferred/released from facilfty.. <br />14. Referral appointments as indicated by medical professional <br />Med, passer shall be responsible for scheduling referral appointments as recommended by the Jail <br />Health Professional, or other Health Care Provider inmate has seen while in our Facility. <br />Lieutenant and Major should be notified of these referrals and appointment dates, <br />Inmate information concerning referrals should be placed in an envelope and placed in appointment <br />box on Clinic wall. Date of appointment should be clearly marked on outside of envelope and <br />visible for Med Passers. Names of Inmates should not be placed on outside of envelopes. <br />Coordination for transportation will be done by the the Lieutenant and Major. <br />1S, Medication Refills /MAR <br />• Med passer will inventory cart & room daily for needed medication refills according to the quantity <br />protocol. These orders will be FAXED to MAST at the first available opportunity. <br />• Medication refill requests received by fax from Pharmacy should be placed in Review box for .tail <br />Health Provider, <br />• Med passer will assist at end of each month in the review of next month's MAR's for those cells <br />assigned. New MAR will be placed In MAR Log book according to procedure previously outlined, <br />previous month MAR will be filed in inmate's chart. <br />16. Inmate Diet Information <br />• Med passers are responsible for placing any dietary changes made by Jail Health Provider on the <br />Special Diet form in the kitchen, <br />• Food allergies noted on Inmate Intake form should be placed on Special Diet form in kitchen. <br />• Documentation in chart of above communicated information should be done by Med Passer. <br />
