POLICY #: 4.15 PAGE 2 OF 8 <br />Duties and Responsibilities of Orange County Jail Med Passers (~(p <br />3. inmate Cell Assignment <br />The Med Passer will view the Inmate Board in the control roam for Inmate cell <br />assignments. <br />Check jail log printout for any inmates that have been released ar moved from previaus <br />cell assignment. <br />Remove any MAR fram the MAR Book and medication from the cart of Inmates tha# have <br />been released. <br />4. Red Book Review <br />The Red book is to be located in the center of the desk next to the telephone in the <br />medical office, <br />It is crucial to check the red bank each day for information being left by the day and night <br />shifts, <br />Important infom~ation should be documented here far communication to oncoming shifts.. <br />5. Narcotic Drug Count <br />Narcotic count is required as outlined below, <br />1. When an inmate has narcotic medications an the cart to be administered, Narcotic <br />count should be done when a med passer arrives for a new shift with Shift Supervisor, <br />with the present/off-going med passer and when med passer ends shift at night with shift <br />Supervisor, <br />2, When an inmate is being #ransferred out to DOC, 'or FEDERAL inmate is transported <br />AND hislfier narcotic medication needs to go with himlher: The med passer shall <br />document the narcotic count of the inmate with the Shift SupervisoNMed passer. Each <br />will initial the MAR narcotic control sheet to validate their Gaunt <br />3, When a narcotic medication comes into the Jail it should be counted and <br />dacumented by 2 Med Passers or a Med Passer acid Shift Supervisor.. if it is approved by <br />a Provider to be administered it should be documented on the narcotic count sheet and <br />counted as listed above, If it is not approved for administration it should be counted, count <br />documented and seated with tamper proof seal. Daily Gaunt of that medication should <br />continue until destroyed ar inmate releasedltransfen•ed out. <br />4, When narcotic medication is designated for destruction.,, <br />5. When destroying narcotic drugs. (They shall be destroyed only under supervision <br />of the Jail Administrator or Detention Supervisor and wilt be documented on the back of <br />the MAR.) <br />6. Glucose Monitoringflnsulinadministration. <br />In the front of the MAR Log book the fist of inmates requiring glucose monitodng or insulin <br />administration should be reviewed, <br />The Med Passer will take the Glucose Monitoring tray (containing jail approved supplies <br />and those appropriate for testing,} to each cell where the inmate will be tested andlor <br />administered insulin. <br />Inmates requiring testing/Insulin administration will be identified by their arm band. <br />Blood sugar readings will be obtained and dacumented on the MAR. <br />Inmates requiring insulin administration will be given an alcohol pad and pie-filled syringe <br />with appropriate dose/type of insulin. 7'he inmate will administer the insulin and the inmate <br />will place the used syringe into the sharps container for proper disposal. <br />The med passer wil( document administration of the insulin on the MAR.. <br />The med passer will ensure all used supplies are removed fram the cell and properly <br />disposed.. <br />
