G~ <br />ORANGE COUNTY JAIL <br />144 East Mazgaret Lane <br />Hillsborough, North Cazolina 27278 <br />POLICY #: 4.01 PAGE 1 OF 2 <br />TITLE: FACII.ITY MEDICAL, PLAN <br />DATE: JULY 1, 2003 <br />RELATED N.C. <br />STANDARDS: .2801; 3203 <br />POLICY STATEMENT: In order to provide for the health, well~~being and welfare of <br />the inmates confined in the Orange County Jail, the Jail Administrator, as directed by the <br />Sheriff; will be responsible for the development of a written facility medical plan that conforms <br />with regulations and standards of North Carolina Minimum .Tail Standards.. The facility medical <br />plan will be reviewed and updated, as necessary, on at least an annual basis by the Jail <br />Administrator and must be approved by the Sheriff, The Sheriff and/or Jail Administrator will <br />ensure that the plan is reviewed and approved by officials of the County Health Department and <br />the medical officials contracted by Orange County to provide health caze for the inmates housed <br />at the Orange County jail prior to implementation of the plan, <br />SPECIFIC PROCEDURES: <br />1. As directed by the Sheriff, the Jail Administrator will be responsible for the development <br />and annual review of the facility medical plan. The Jail Administrator will ensure that the plan <br />is approved and signed by the Sheriff and reviewed and signed by officials of the County Health <br />Department and Medical Officials contracted by Orange County to provide health care prior to <br />implementation of the plan. <br />2, A copy of the facility's medical plan will be posted in the Control Room in a conspicuous <br />azea so as to afford all detention officers access to the plan for review. <br />3. A brief summary of the plan, to include information as to the availability of health caze <br />services at the facility, will be included in the Inmate Handbook so as to ensure that inrriates are <br />aware of and familiar with the procedures necessary to be followed to access health care <br />services. <br />4. At a minimum, the facility medical plan will include information that addresses the <br />__ following areas: <br />A. Health screening of inmates upon admission to the facility; <br />B Procedures for handling routine medical care requests; <br />
