51 <br />ORANGE COUNTY JAIL <br />144 E, Margaret Lane <br />Hillsborough, Nortii Carolina 27278 <br />POLICY #: <br />4.13 <br />PAGE 1 OF :3 <br />POLICY TITLE: <br />DATE: <br />RELATED N.C. <br />STANDARDS: <br />TRANSPORTATION OF INMATES FOR MEDICAL CARE <br />IDLY 1, 2003 <br />.2403 (a) (8); .3201 <br />POLICY STATEMENT: In order to ensure, to the extent possible, that thorough health <br />care deliver services are provided inmates, ,jail detention officers will arrange for the <br />transportation of inmates to outside medical care providers for both routine appointments and <br />for emergency purposes, In an effort to ensure thatjail detention officers are not being required <br />to perform duties that would interfere with the continuous supervision of inmate housed at the <br />facility, inmates being transported out side the facility will be required to be accompanied by an <br />Orange County Sheriff's Office Deputy at all times. <br />SPECIFIC PROCEUDRES: <br />1. Transportation for Routine Medical Care: <br />A. The lieutenant will be responsible for coordinating the transportation of inmates <br />outside the facility for routine medical care with Deputies from the Orange County <br />Sheriff's Office, <br />B, The lieutenant will ensure that should a female inmate require transportation to a <br />medical provider, that a female Deputy/detention officer is available to provide <br />transportation, <br />C. Once transportation arrangement have been made, the Lieutenant or, designee will <br />insure no one will advise inmate with medical appointments of the time that they will <br />be picked-up for transportation to the same. <br />D The lieutenant or designee will ensure that all Deputies providing transportation <br />for an inmate is provided with a copy of the inmate's "Prisoner Medical Report Form" <br />for delivery to the health care provider. <br />E. The Orange County Deputy will be required to remain with the inmate at all times <br />when the inmate is not within the confines of the facility. However, inmates will be <br />allowed privacy during medical examinations and conferences with qualified medical <br />personnel, <br />
