58 <br />POLICY 4.12, "COMMCINICABLE DISEASES" <br />PAGE 2 OF 2 <br />The contracted medical professional and or the Health deparhnent may recommend any of the <br />following actions: <br />A. That the inmate remain on medical separation status at the facility; <br />B. That the inmate be placed in the general population; or, <br />C, That the inmate be transferred to an outside facility for treatment/care (e.g., transfer to <br />the North Carolina Department of Corrections). <br />4. Should the physician recommend that the inmate be transferred to an outside facility for <br />treatment, the procedures outlined in Orange County Jail Policy 4.13, "Transportation of <br />Imnates for Medical Care," will be followed by.jail officers. <br />5. Any record(s) or information that would identify an 'inmate as having a <br />communicable or contagious disease will be kept strictly confidential and will be <br />maintained and filed in the inmate's medical file only. Under no circumstances will <br />information that identifies an inmate as having a communicable disease be placed in the <br />inmate's confinement record. (remember you are not to discuss anything about an <br />inmate's medical condition) <br />6, Jail detention officers shall follow universal safety precautions when coming in contact <br />with inmates with communicable and/or contagious diseases or when coming in contact with <br />any items that may be considered contagious. <br />7. Jail detention officers will receive formal training regarding communicable/contagious <br />diseases during their first 30 days of employment and continue training through instruction at <br />Basic Jail Certification School. <br />Reviewed and Approved: <br />(Sheriff') <br />Date: <br />
