ORANGE COUNTY JAIL `" <br />144 E. Margaret Lane <br />Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278 <br />POLICY #: 4.12 PAGE 1 OF 2 <br />POLICY TITLE: COMMUNICABLE DISEASES <br />DATE: NLY 1, 2003 <br />RELATED N.C. <br />STANDARDS: ,340.3 (a) (8); 3201(b) (.3); .3202 <br />POLICY STATEMENT: Irr order to promote the well-being of inmates and to provide <br />protection against the spread of illnesses throughout the facility, jail detention officers will be <br />required to conduct a routine health evaluation of all inmates upon their admission to the <br />facility. Newly admitted inmates who appear or admit that they are suffering from a <br />communicable or contagious disease will be required to be placed in administrative sepazation <br />housing until such a time that they are examined by a licensed health care provider, Upon the <br />orders of a licensed physician contracted by the facility to provide for health care services or <br />Health Care Professional, irunates who are suffering from a known communicable or contagious <br />disease will be required to be placed in medical segregation status until such a time that the <br />physician recommends the uunate for placement to the general population or for transfer to an <br />outside facility. Any information or documentation identifying an inmate with a <br />communicable disease will be kept strictly confidential. <br />SPECIFIC PROCEDURES: <br />1. Jail detention officers will ensure that all newly admitted inmates are screened for <br />health/medical problems pursuant to the procedures contained in Orange County Jail Policy <br />2.11, "Preliminary Health Screening." Should an inmate reveal that he/she has a <br />communicable and/or contagious disease, the admitting officer should ensure that this <br />information is noted on a separate Preliminary Health Screening Form for filing in the <br />inmates medical record only. <br />2. Any inmate who admits or appears to be suffering from a communicable or contagious <br />disease will be placed in administrative separation as soon as identified until such a time that <br />they are examined by a licensed physician contrasted by the facility to provide health care <br />services to inmates. <br />3 The contracted medical professional or the Orange County Health Department shall be <br />responsible for recommending a housing assignment or alternative to the Jail Administrator <br />and/or Sheriff for an inmate with a known communicable or contagious disease,. <br />
