POLICY 4.11, "ACQUIRED IMMUNE DEFICIENCY SYNDROME (AIDS)" 5~- <br />PAGE 7 OF 8 <br />7. .Tail detention officers will place contaminated items in plastic bags or <br />containers and will mark the containers "CONTAMINATED;" <br />8. .Tail detention officers will use a pocket mask or a pocket mask with aone- <br />way valve when performing CPR on any individual, to include another employee <br />(NOTE: Any officer refusing to perform CPR on an inmate with the use of a <br />pocket mask will be subject to disciplinary action): <br />10, Steps to be Taken Upon Exposure to Blood or Body Fluids: <br />A. Any jail detention officer exposed to blood or body fluids should immediately <br />wash and cleanse the exposed area with warm water and soap. Jail detention officers <br />exposed to blood and/or body fluids will be provided the opportunity to schedule an <br />appointment with the contract medical physician, if the HIV status is known, the <br />consultation should be as soon as practicable and if the HIV status is unlrnown, the <br />consultation will be within the shift in which the exposure occurred to discuss the <br />likelihood of transmission. <br />B, Jail detention officers will be required to complete an official Incident Report <br />anytime they have been exposed to blood and/or body fluids of another individual while <br />at the facility, If medical attention was provided to the officer by the contract physician, <br />the jail officer will also be required to complete a Workman's Compensation Form. (Staff <br />shall insure that inmates exposed shall receive equal treatment) <br />C. Copies of the Incident Report and, if complete, the Worker's Compensation <br />Report will be submitted to the Jail Administrator for review and for necessary <br />distribution, maintenance and filing. <br />D. Jail detention officers exposed to blood and/or body fluids may request that they <br />be tested for Hepatitus B, Hepatitus C or HIV infection. The results of any such test do <br />not need to be reported to the facility. <br />11. Confidentiality: <br />A, All ,jail detention officers will be instructed to never reveal any information <br />pertaining to the HIV or AIDS status of any inmate to any other officer, inmate or <br />individual. Any jail officer found to be disclosing such information will be immediately <br />reported to the Sheriff and/or Jail Administrator and may be subject to disciplinary <br />action, <br />B, Contract medical personnel may reveal the HIV/AIDS status of an inmate to any <br />of the following individuals or for any of the following reasons: <br />
