POLICY 4.11, "ACQLTIl2ED IMMi7NE DEFICIENCY SYNDROME (AIDS)" ~~ <br />PAGE 6 OF 8 <br />1. Disposable latex or rubber gloves; <br />2. Pocket masks with one way valves for CPR; and, <br />3. Disposable paper towels and cleaning supplies. <br />4, Goggles <br />B. Jail detention officers will be trained in the purpose and use of such equipment and <br />in tmiversal safety precaution within .30 days of employment, additional training will <br />continue at the State Mandated Basic Jail Certification School and during first aid <br />training. <br />C. Jail detention officers will not wear protective equipment while performing their <br />normal job duties at the facility. <br />D, The following universal safety precautions will be exercised by jail detention <br />officers whenever an officer comes, or expects to come, in contract with blood or body <br />fluids; <br />1. Jail detention officers will wear disposable or rubber gloves when handling <br />objects; conducting cell searches; handling inmate laundry; handling disruptive, <br />assaultive, or violent inmates; and/or, when physically required to handle inmates <br />(e,g., during frisk searches); <br />2, Jail detention officers will ensure that any area on either their body, another <br />individual's body, object or area exposed to blood or body fluids be thoroughly <br />cleansed with warm water and soap; <br />3. Jail detention officers will ensure that any cut, sores or breaks in their skin <br />be covered with water resistant bandages; <br />4. Jail detention officers should avoid situations where there is likelihood that <br />they could be punctured with sharp objects, to include knives, razors and needles, <br />To this end, officers should ensure that they use a flashlight and mirror if they are <br />entering or searching an area where their sight is obstructed; <br />5, Jail detention officers will ensure that sharp objects be placed in puncture <br />resistant containers. <br />6, Jail detention officers will wear disposable or rubber gloves and will use a <br />disinfectant composed of a solution of bleach and water when cleaning up spills <br />and surfaces exposed to blood or body fluids; <br />
