Any inmate placed on medical segregation will be given the opportunity to <br />participate, to fhe extent possible, in regular facility programs and services (e.g., <br />visitation, recreation, etc.). <br />E. Should any detention employee of the facility be found to be segregating an <br />inmate within the facility solely because the inmate is HIV infected or has AIDS, <br />he/she will be subject to disciplinary action. <br />7. Housins of Detained Defendants for Investieation and/or' HIV Testing: <br />A. Pursuant to state statute, a judge may order a defendant to be detained for' up to 24 <br />hours for investigation by public health officials or for a possible HIV test. Should an <br />inmate be admitted to the facility for this purpose, the admitting officer will immediately <br />notify the Lieutenant. <br />B. The Lieutenant will be responsible for notifying the .Jail Administrator who will be <br />responsible for contacting local public health authorities and advising them of the <br />detainee. <br />C. .Jail detention officers will afford public health officials reasonable access to the <br />detainee. <br />D. Should any individual contact the facility to find out the status of any test <br />conducted on a detainee, jail officers will refer all such inquiries to local public health <br />department authorities. <br />&. Program Participation for HIV/AIDS Inmates: <br />A. An inmate who is HIV infected or has AIDS will not be denied the same access to <br />programs and services as other inmates housed in the general population at the facility. <br />The only exception to this will be in cases where the contract physician has determined <br />that an inmate should not participate in a certain program, activity or service due to <br />medical reasons. <br />9. Safety Equ~ment and Universal Safety Precautions: <br />A. The following safety equipment will be readily available for detention officer's <br />use at the facility. <br />
